Welcome to the Model-Based Embedded and Robotic Systems (MERS) Group. We develop Cognitive Robots using model-based techniques, grounded in real-world missions from deep space exploration to healthcare.

Mission domains
We enable cognitive robotic characteristics using model-based techniques: a set of methods to model the robot and its environment, and algorithms that use these models to provide our desired functionality.
The functionalities we are presently most interested in include reasoning about the environment, adaptability, risk-assessment, human-robot collaboration, and multi-agent planning.
We focus on scenario-driven research, grounding our methods in real-world problems such as assembly and manufacturing, autonomous driving, deep space exploration, healthcare and household assistance, search and rescue, and underwater exploration.
Led by Professor Brian C. Williams, our group brings together researchers in planning, learning, and autonomy from across MIT.
